Liberal Studies – Minors in English and Communications
Getting comfortable in new surroundings can be a challenge, but at Bay Path College, you can’t help but get out of your shell and seize the day!
As a liberal studies major with a writing career-focus, I am in good company among professors who inspire me to follow my dreams. From professors like Writer-in-Residence and New York Times, best-selling author Suzanne Strempek Shea, I’ve learned there are no boundaries to what I can accomplish. Professor Shea and other faculty have introduced me to multiple genres of writing from newspaper features to memoirs to advertisement copy, allowing me to discover the numerous career opportunities for writers. I’m even getting my first glimpse into freelancing and story queries, thanks in part to the encouragement I received from Dr. John Jarvis. After writing an article on the Carlisle Indian School and Cemetery in Pennsylvania, I am now seeking magazine or journal for my story that tells of the lives of Native American children at the turn of the 20th century.
Outside the classroom, I’ve continued my passion for writing by joining the Creative Writers’ Circle. These activities, combined with Bay Path’s supportive environment, have provided additional creative outlets for me to express my dreams and to encourage others to pursue their goals. By taking each and every opportunity presented to me, I am confident in my abilities as a writer and a leader.
Tiera is currently working for the online, New Zealand-based entertainment magazine, Portrait.net, and seeking a senior internship in the entertainment industry for summer 2011.
