Supreme Court Decision on Affirmative Action

June 29, 2023

This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court released decisions on two cases that will dramatically alter the use of race as a factor in college admissions policies and practices.

I want to be absolutely clear: This decision in no way changes Bay Path’s fundamental commitment to building a diverse and welcoming community of faculty, students, and staff, as articulated by our Core Values.  As always, our Core Values will be our compass as we move forward in this new landscape.

We will continue to embrace diversity, in all its forms, because we know it makes Bay Path stronger as an institution of teaching and learning.  It is an integral part of our mission, inspiring us to action and strengthening our resolve to provide access and opportunity to students who make up the immense and varied fabric of our country.

Our charge as a University will be to ensure—within the bounds of the law—a richly diverse and powerful learning environment for all.  This is an obligation that we owe not only to our students, but to society as a whole.

Please read the press release, “Healey-Driscoll Administration Releases Joint Statement in Response to Supreme Court Decision on Race-Based Admissions.”  This statement was signed by over 130 Massachusetts institutions of higher education, advocacy organizations, and elected officials.

On behalf of Bay Path University, I am proud to be included as one of the signatories.
