Heidi Fettig Parton has published in a wide range of literary journals, including Assay Journal, Brevity: A Concise Journal of Literary Nonfiction, Brevity’s Blog, “Beautiful Things” at River Teeth Journal, Dorothy Parker’s Ashes, Fugue Journal, The Keepthings, Sweet Lit, The Manifest-Station, Multiplicity, North Dakota Quarterly, Saint Paul Almanac, The Rumpus, and more. Her work has been nominated for Best American Essays 2023 and was included in Better Together: A Collection of Essays on Women Gathering and Her Path Forward: 21 Stories of Transformation and Inspiration (Publish Her Press).
Heidi’s training as an end-of-life doula, yoga instructor, and ceremonialist, informs her writing work, which touches on themes of loss, parenting, the aging feminine, and—sometimes —rock’n’roll. She publishes a monthly writing ritual on her Substack: Writing with Presence.
Heidi holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from Bay Path University, a Juris Doctorate (graduating with honors) and BA (earned summa cum laude) in English, both from the University of North Dakota. Heidi has a long career history in publishing. Most recently, she served as editor and publishing manager for Publish Her Press, a hybrid literary press. She also spent more than a decade in academic publishing, working first as a senior acquisitions editor, then publisher, for West Academic Press. Currently, she’s enjoying her time as senior editor of Multiplicity Magazine.
Heidi lives with her husband and teenage son outside Minneapolis, Minnesota occupying land that is the ancestral home of the Wahpekute people. She has taught Legal Writing at the University of Minnesota Law School. While in law school, she served as an editor of the North Dakota Law Review. She loves to discuss Constitutional Law, almost as much as publishing, if you’re game.
