Karen Carlson G'08, MS, CQE,CQA, SSBB

After graduating from Smith College in Northampton, MA, Carlson joined Tyco Healthcare-Ludlow in Chicopee MA. Over a period of ten years, Carlson was promoted several times which ultimately resulted in her promotion as the first woman to the executive staff level. In her role as Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, Carlson helped transition the quality and regulatory policies and processes from a paper converting division to a medical device manufacturing division. In addition, Carlson was selected to become a member of the acquisition team which participated in the purchase and integration of 20 new businesses. The acquisitions increased division sales from $40 million to $450 million during that period. Carlson has led numerous quality initiatives focused on process improvement, cost-savings, customer satisfaction, and strategic planning.

Carlson holds a BS in Economics from Smith College, a MS in Communications and Information Management from Bay Path University. Carlson is a graduate of the Smith College Executive Management program, where she studied executive management topics. She is a member of the American Society of Quality and holds the following three ASQ certifications: Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor and Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
