At the Egress
By Hebah Habib
Citrus and sweet ginger,
open palms and heady warmth,
eyes like honey in the sun.
With the steady staccato of my heart,
you name rings in tandem.
The north star in the endless night,
all the enraptures of a siren, and the safety of an anchor,
a shimmering beacon in murky waters.
The sweetness of spring,
and the inferno of summer,
bold and bright and beautiful.
And like heliotrope flowers turn to the sun,
and how Eurydice trailed behind Orpheus,
regardless of the winding roads ahead,
my love for you will follow wherever you go.
