On November 14, the Bay Path University Honors Program inducted its new class of students in an intimate ceremony in Mills Theater. The 2024 induction is only the second induction ceremony following COVID-19 in 2020. It was an excellent opportunity to welcome the new class to such a wonderful program while congratulating them on their accomplishments leading up to this point. We heard from multiple speakers, including Bay Path University President Sandra J. Doran J.D., Dr. Brenda Hardin Abbott, Dr. Robert Surbrug (Honors Program Director), and members of the Honors Board. Each speaker congratulated the students on their hard work and encouraged them to keep a passion for learning throughout their time at the university and beyond.
As part of the induction, each student received a gold cord from President Doran with support from Dr. Natalia Blank, Bay Path Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), symbolizing an official commitment to the program. The Honors Board and its President, Carissa Church, led the group in reciting the program's oath.
Over the last couple of years, the Honors program has expanded as it welcomed a board of students for the first time since COVID-19. The organization of the ceremony was a tedious task; however, it turned out to be incredible for the new students. As a new member of both the Honors Program and Honors board, it was heartwarming to see the turnout of friends, family, and staff members who supported the students in their commitment to being lifelong learners.
I want to congratulate all my fellow new members of the honors program. I know you've been told the same thing multiple times, but you should be proud of your hard work to get to this point. Everyone has done an incredible job in and out of the classroom this first semester, showing the true characteristics of an honors student here at BayPath, participating in community service events, and giving back to your communities in the ways that matter most. You should all be proud of yourselves for this incredible accomplishment.
