With snow returning to Longmeadow this winter, it seems that many students are eager to embrace the long-standing tradition of sledding down the hill outside Carr Hall. However, if you’re looking to switch things up and explore a new location, I’d highly recommend checking out the Longmeadow Country Club, which is located just under a mile and a half from campus.
The club features a range of hills of varying lengths, making it an ideal spot for sledding. You and your friends can easily find the perfect hill to match your sledding style.
Getting to the Country Club is simple, and parking is plentiful, so you won’t have to worry about finding a spot. However, do keep in mind that you’ll need to bring your own sled, as they aren’t provided on-site.
On the day we visited, which was mid-day on MLK Day, the area was fairly busy—many families were out enjoying the snow since it was a holiday and people were off from work and school.
The hills at the Country Club are beautiful but can get quite windy, so be sure to dress warmly before heading out. A good coat, gloves, and a hat will go a long way in keeping you comfortable. We forgot to bring those things initially and even made the trip back to campus to get them as it was simply too cold without them.
If you find yourself with some free time between classes or just want to make the most of the snowy weather, the Longmeadow Country Club offers a fun alternative to the Carr Hall hill.
Even if you’re only able to stay for a quick session, it’s worth the short trip over—there’s something special about enjoying the snow in a new setting, and you might just discover your new favorite spot for winter fun.
