Many students at our college are interested in running a business for side income or are already working on their business ventures, but navigating each step can feel overwhelming - especially if you don’t personally know someone with business experience. As you pursue ventures and ideas, you may consider SCORE.
SCORE, according to its website, is a nonprofit organization offering free mentorship, webinars, and classes to give every person the support they need to thrive as a small business owner. Since 1964, they have helped more than 17 million entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses with an astounding 10,000 volunteers. With locations across the U.S., SCORE connects aspiring entrepreneurs with experienced business leaders to guide you through the process of starting and growing a business. This mentorship provides unique access to real-world insights and personalized advice from professionals who have navigated these challenges- an instrumental resource for those looking to establish themselves in the business world.
In addition to one-on-one mentorship, SCORE offers low or no-cost workshops on essential topics such as digital marketing, branding, cash flow management, creating financial projections, funding options, starting a nonprofit, and more. These learning options are accessible both in person and online, allowing you to learn at your own pace. The program also includes many templates for your business preparation/planning, such as finance templates for managing cash flow, marketing and sales strategies, and management templates such as the business health check tool. Whether you are aiming to build a business or a personal brand,
SCORE is a powerful resource to help you achieve your goals. It is a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Thanks to this generous support from the SBA and the selfless contributions of our more than 10,000 dedicated volunteers, we can deliver most of our offerings at no cost.
