Congratulations to our very own Wildcat, Janaye Cunningham, for representing Bay Path University in the USCAA's post-season awards!
Janaye Cunningham was honored with "Student Athlete of the Year" after an eventful semester that included volleyball, classes, club meetings, and much more.
For the 2024 season, Janaye has been an essential player for the Wildcats. She has contributed 21 kills, two aces, 12 digs, and 12 blocks as a right-side hitter. Janaye leads by example on the court, bringing energy, displaying leadership, and demonstrating loyalty to the program.
During the 2022 season, Janaye was seriously injured on the way to volleyball practice, which resulted in her season being cut short. She spent 10 months in and out of the hospital, undergoing extensive rehab and physical therapy, all in hopes of returning to the court. Upon her return, she became a game-changer for the Wildcats and continues to make an impact this season.
Janaye's commitment extends beyond athletics. She emphasizes the importance of her academics, making it clear to her coaches that her grades are just as important as volleyball. Thanks to her dedication to her coursework, Janaye has maintained a GPA of over 3.5 and was selected for the USCAA All-Academic Team.
Janaye brings the same focus and effort to her personal life as well. She is very active on campus as a member of ALANA (African-American, Latina, Asian, and Native American Allies), where she is currently running for club president. She is also a Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) member. Beyond her club activities, Janaye volunteers with STAT (Student Athletes Today, Alumni Tomorrow). Additionally, Janaye is part of the Women in STEM Honors (WISH) program, where she devotes herself to studying medical science. As a Stern Scholar, she participates in advanced studies for women aspiring to become scientists and receives scholarships to conduct research in her field of interest. Janaye is also passionate about the Office of Multicultural Affairs, which promotes diversity and inclusion on campus, and she is deeply involved in organizing events for this initiative. On top of this, Janaye works at the Student Information Desk and coaches high school girls at the club level for Pioneer Valley Juniors.
In addition to her remarkable efforts on the court and in the classroom, Janaye is known for treating everyone with kindness and having a smile that could light up a room. Her natural ability to demonstrate commitment and dedication to every program she is involved in is truly exceptional.
Congratulations, Janaye! The Bay Path community is incredibly proud of you and all of your hard work.
