Being a student-athlete at Bay Path means so much more than just being on the field. Athletic director and head softball coach Steve Smith prides each of his athletes at Bay Path for succeeding within the community and especially in the classroom. As a student-athlete, it requires the ability to balance the demands of academics with the commitment of being a part of a team. This can be both a rewarding and challenging experience, as it involves managing time effectively between attending classes, studying, and training or competing in sports. However, the Wildcats make it look pretty easy to balance their academics and athletics.
There were fifty-five total student-athletes between the volleyball, softball, and soccer teams. The fall semester is considered the traditional season for volleyball and soccer as they compete in regular-season games.
Bay Path volleyball plays an average of twenty-one matches per season. However, for soccer, the Wildcats participate in only eight games as they continue to rebuild their program. Softball participates in their nontraditional season during the fall semester, meaning they are allowed only forty practices and two games. Four of the student-athletes this semester participated in two sports: Madison Tessmer, Ansley Morrison, Kylie Silks, and Alyssa Kreischer. The four student-athletes were participants in both the softball and soccer teams.
Volleyball led the way in the classroom this semester with a 3.64 team GPA, softball followed closely behind with a 3.55 GPA, and lastly, the soccer team ended with a 3.32. The average GPA between all of the student-athletes came out to be 3.50. 65% of student-athletes were able to achieve Dean's List. Seven of them received a 4.0.
Congratulations to all student-athletes on their academic successes this semester; keep it going this spring!
