Honors Model United Nations Class Takes On Harvard Conference
The Honors Model United Nations class recently took a trip to the Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) in Boston, Massachusetts, to represent the nation of Qatar. In the Model UN honors course, students learn about the history and structure of the UN and its role in the world today.
The HNMUN conference is a four-day event attended annually by over 2,500 students from around the US and the world. This year, more than 2,800 students from 69 nations participated in the conference. Each member of Bay Path's nine-student delegation was part of a different committee related to global issues.
One of the attendees, elementary education major Megan Mackie ’19, explains why participating in the Model UN was so unique to her college experience:
It was amazing to see so many young, ambitious students at the HNMUN conference, working together to try to solve a relevant, current issue in the world regarding terrorism. The students that came to Model UN were from all around the world and it was inspiring to see the effort and passion we all put into our committees. This was my first time participating, but I learned so much about myself and the world we live in. It was an experience I will never forget. My committee, Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), was able to come to a resolution which was really exciting to see. Supposedly, DISEC had not passed a resolution in the past six years.”
